Where Good Health Begins
Preventative care is the foundation of a long, healthy life for your pet. At Island Veterinary Hospital, our wellness program is designed to keep your dog, cat, or small companion animal feeling their best today and to catch potential problems before they become serious ones tomorrow. We recommend scheduling a wellness exam at least once a year for adult pets, and twice yearly for seniors.
Wellness Care, Customized
Wellness exams allow us to get to know your pet and establish what’s normal for them. Because pets can’t tell us when something feels off, routine exams are one of the most powerful tools we have for early detection. Even if your pet seems perfectly healthy, a lot can change between visits — and we’d rather catch it early.
Every wellness visit at Island Veterinary Hospital includes a thorough nose-to-tail physical exam, a review of your pet’s health history, and a conversation about nutrition, behavior, and preventive care. We’ll also discuss which vaccinations are due and whether any additional screening or diagnostics are recommended based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.
Vaccinations are one of the most cost-effective ways to protect your pet’s health. Core vaccines — including Rabies, DA2PPV, and FVRCP — are recommended for most dogs and cats. We may also recommend lifestyle vaccines such as Bordetella or canine influenza for dogs who frequent boarding facilities, dog parks, or other social settings. Every vaccination plan we recommend is tailored to your individual pet, never one-size-fits-all.
We also offer microchipping that can be done during any wellness visit — a simple, one-time procedure that provides permanent identification for your pet. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Should your pet ever go missing, a microchip significantly increases the chances they’ll find their way back to you.
